Product Description:

The ASICS Gel Resolution 5 Tennis Shoes are available for both men and women. The shoes are constructed of a rubber upper with large panels of mesh through the middle and sides to provide fresh cooling air to the foot during intense tennis matches. The outsole of the shoe is made of a high abrasion rubber which provides a much longer lasting sole that lasts longer on hard court surfaces. The ASICS DuoMax support system provides an increased level of support without adding weight. The ASICS Gel Resolution 5 also features the Impact Guidance System, which is an ASICS® design philosophy that uses linked shoe components to enhance the foot’s natural motion through the whole movement cycle. These shoes also feature the seal of acceptance by the American Podiatric Medical Association. This seal is granted to products found to promote good foot health. The Gel Resolution 5’s comes in a rainbow of colors from black, white, and everything in between.

Review:

I have owned these shoes for approximately 6 months. I chose the Fiery Red/Black/Yellow colorway, that I affectionately nicknamed “ketchup and mustard.” The fit was great and I felt like I did not need a break in period since the shoes felt pretty comfortable right away. My shoe size is 12 and my foot has low/no arches which make them a little wider than normal width. When wearing other models I have often had to order a smaller size with a wider width to compensate for the needs of my foot. The ASICS Gel Resolution 5’s upper is made from rubber and mesh which I feel gives it just enough stretch to accommodate a slightly wider foot. The large mesh areas in the upper helped keep my foot cool during the hottest days on the court. The shoes felt light enough that I never felt weighed down while running full speed trying to retrieve a wide shot or while making the small, quick adjustment steps needed to hit the ball correctly. The shoes felt like they were not even there. In my opinion, that is a sign of really great-fitting tennis shoes. I did not need to use the additional lace holes to take care of the “heel lock” feature since the shoe’s fit was comfortably snug with using just the normal lace holes. My foot pronates which means that the edges of the soles of my shoes wear out much faster and much more severely than the rest of the sole. I was pleasantly surprised at the end of my 6-month stint with these shoes that the outsole was not nearly as worn down as other tennis shoe models. When I run on the court, I produce a chorus of squeaks on the way to a ball and it was a surprise to see the soles of the ASICS shoes in such good shape near the end of their life. As the shoes began to wear, I noticed that the mesh on the front of the toe box started to tear apart. I use that as a visual wear indicator telling me that the time has come to replace these shoes at the 6 month point, which is the average amount of time it takes me to wear out a tennis shoe.

Pros:

The available colors are eye-catching and a conversation starter. I received many nice compliments on the shoes.
The outsole has been very durable over the past 6 months.
The fit is superb and true to size.
The mesh in the upper keeps your foot cool during play

Cons:

The mesh on the upper starts to tear which also starts to affect the stability of the shoe.

Conclusion:

The shoes were comfortable. These were my first pair of ASICS and I will strongly consider purchasing another pair to replace them. They have become an integral part of my tennis game and gear and I received many compliments during league and pickup matches.
